Aussie Classification Board Bans Fighting Game

This week HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×IMPACT was refused classification but the Australian Classification Board.  When contacted for further details a representative of the board replied.

Attributable to a spokesperson from the Classification Board

On 18 November 2024, the Classification Board classified HUNTER x HUNTER NEN x IMPACT RC (Refused Classification).

When making decisions, the Classification Board applies the Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) Act 1995, the National Classification Code and the Guidelines for the Classification of Computer Games 2023, all of which are available on: www.classification.gov.au/About/Pages/Legislation.aspx.

The Classification Board noted that the computer game contains a scene of a visual depiction of implied sexual violence, where an adult male exposes himself to persons under the age of 18 years. This depiction of implied sexual violence cannot be accommodated within the R 18+ classification.

Furthermore, the Board noted in its report that the implied sexual violence is implicitly condoned as appropriate due to a lack of resolution of the act through the game’s narrative and that it is not justified by context. Actual sexual violence is not permitted within the R18+ classification category. Implied sexual violence that is visually depicted, interactive, not justified by context or related to incentives or rewards is also not permitted.

The Guidelines state that computer games that exceed the R 18+ classification category will be Refused Classification.

Frank

Ubisoft San Fran and Osaka will be shut down, and around 170-180 people will be laid off. Those not affected will move on to other Ubisoft projects. Today is the last day for some employees.
